If you love US History and are looking for people, places and events that you probably didn’t learn about in your history class, this is the place for you. Each month we will bring you stories of fascinating people and events, some known and unknown, who changed the face of the United States.
We’ve all been taught US History, be it in elementary school as a part of Social Studies, or in high school as US or AP US History. For most of us, US History class consisted of memorizing dates like 1776, 1861, or 1941. But what about 1526 or 1619. Our Founding Fathers become household names, but what about Benjamin Banneker, Robert Brown Elliott, or Dr. Ernest Just, and where are the women? The GREATS like Anna Julia Cooper, Queen Lili’uokalani, or Jovita Idar. It’s about time we get the complete narrative and not just the footnotes. Here we will find historical figures in context and not just limited to singular events. That’s the hope of this website.
HAPPY WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH!! No history is complete without the innovation, brilliance and sacrifice of women! Enjoy this gallery of Black women whose very existence left an unmatched mark on US History!
